Curtis Blackwood

North Carolina House of Representatives | District 68 | Union County

Curtis Blackwood

Hi, I’m Curtis Blackwood and I am running for the privilege of representing you, the people of NC House District 68, western Union Co., for a fourth term.

I was born and raised in Charlotte, one of six children.  My father was a small businessman in car parts and mother taught in Union Co.  I have been a conservative Republican since registration at age 18.  Union County has been my home since 1973.

I bring to the Legislature my educational background, eighteen years experience as a teacher and principal --- elementary through college---and the past twenty-eight years as a small businessman with my wife, Audrey, in property management.  I have two grown children, Ken and Emily, and a new granddaughter.  With the help of my family, the distinguishing feature of my campaign style includes having walked to meet the voters at thousands of homes to learn their concerns.  Although I have won nine elections in Union Co., I do not take the voters for granted and would appreciate your support in the upcoming election.

District 68 is the people’s seat, not mine.  Legislation should be for the good of the people and not special interest groups.  Some proposed legislation sounds good but has unintended consequences and part of my role is to consider the ramifications when I vote.  Unfortunately, in voting against a bad budget, I may be charged with voting against many things I truly support, all because they are included in a single budget vote.
